Hi everyone
APRIL CLUBDAY
Clubday this month is next Sunday 18 April and the track direction is normal ( clockwise ). The duty class is all junior drivers so please make sure you are there a bit earlier with your gaurdians to help with setup and there at the end of racing to help with tidy up. The free sausage sizzle at the end of racing will continue on and is getting good support , so please come and join us for a drink, sausage and prize giving after your days racing.
CLUB CHAMPS
Our annual club champs will be run on our May clubday Sunday 16 May 2010. The track direction for this event will be the normal way ( clockwise ). You must pre enter the club champs prior to the day and entry forms will be up on the club website shortly. There are minimum numbers for each class before they can run, Cadets 4 entries, Junior Restricted 4 entries, and all other classes a minimum of 6 entries. So chase your fellow competitors along to get the numbers up. Any classes who do not have the minimum numbers can still run on the day but will not be classed as a club champs event. The club champs is a trophy event with the trophies being given out at our annual prize giving. Reminder that there will be technical examinations for the first three place getters in each class on the day so make sure your kart is all up to standard and you are running the correct weight.
CLUB MEMBERSHIP
You should by now have renewed your club membership for the next 12 months. If you hold a key to the track you will also need to re apply for your key on the key application form. Both forms are on the club website www.kartsportwellington.co.nz. The lock on the main gate has now been changed and only the new keys will get you in. You will also need your new membership card to race at this months clubday.
KARTSPORT WELLINGTON 50 YEAR CELEBRATIONS
This year is a big year for our club as we celebrate 50 years of karting in Wellington. From humble beginnings at Duck Creek in Pauatahanui to the world class facilites we now have the club has come along way. We plan to incorporate our 50 year celebrations with our annual 2 day Upper Hutt City Grand Prix meeting over the weekend of 31 July and 1 August. There will be a dinner function on Friday 30 July at a venue in Upper Hutt that will be advised shortly. Please talk to any past members you may know and tell them about this special event. Also if you have any old club info or pictures tucked away let us know as we want to set up a bit of a display. Over the weekend we will be running the Grand Prix in CIK format and also be having some fun races along with vintage kart races, so a very busy weekend is planned for you all to enjoy. Again for this event you will need to pre enter and for most classes you will need a B rating to race apart fom, Cadet, Junior Restricted and Clubclass who will need a C rating. More details will be on the club website soon.
As this is a major event on the karting calender and trophies are presented we will be looking for sponsorship for each of the classes.
We will again be running our successful naming rights draw. Tickets will cost $100 each and all tickets sold will go into a draw for naming rights of each class. To make this work we need each of you our members to sell at least 2 tickets each, so start thinking of a business that you can chase to buy a ticket and we will be in contact with you all when the tickets are ready.
KARTPORTS
There are currently 4 kartports available for lease, with 2 of our members looking at taking one each at present that will mean only 2 left. As we head into the winter months the kartport shelters do make a difference to your day. You can only use a vacant kartport on a clubday if you have the permission of the lease holder, and any vacant karports at drivers briefing can be hired at a small cost for the day. See me if you want one on the day. Cost of a kartport from now through to end of September is $125.00 and you have the first right of renewal.
CLUB TECH DAY
We are looking at holding one of our popular tech days on Saturday 12 June from about 10.00am through to about 2.00pm at the track. We will have some karting specialists there to help you with engines, chassis set up and track lines, etc. Normal format is that we will split you into groups depending on classes and then you move around the various coaches and should be some time for on track driving after 2.00pm. We also hope to have a rep there from CRC to talk about there various products on offer. Mark the date in your diaries now. This is always a popular day.
STARTER / FINISHER
Barry Cappleman our club patron and starter finisher for clubdays and any other events we run is taking a holiday. This means we need someone to be our starter for clubdays in May and June. This is an important role on the day and you get to enjoy the racing from a sheltered and elevated prime position. If you are not racing on one of these days or have a family member who might like the job for a day let me know. Thanks.
WORKING BEE
Our next scheduled working bee is planned for Sunday 9 May. We plan to get the play ground installed along with some general maintenance around the track prior to the club champs meeting. Mark the date in your diaries now and more details on what to bring will be sent out soon.
FINALLY
Reminder that the clubs AGM is being held on Tuesday 29 June 2010 at the Angus Inn Lower Hutt starting at 7.30pm. Notices for motions etc will be sent out to you shortly, put the date in your diaries now as we need a minimum number of our members to attend.
We are currently looking for a couple of new stewards to help out with clubdays. If this is a role you might be interested in training for , or if you are maybe a retired karter but still have an interest in the sport let us know. the training is quite straight forward and you would be assisting the club.
Well done to all our members who raced at the Nationals in Hawkes Bay. Some excellent results for Wellington members. You made us proud.
See you all at clubday
