Hi to you all
MAY CLUBDAY
Clubday is this Sunday 16 May and it is our club champs meeting. The track direction is clockwise ( normal). The list of entries has been sent to you and the following classes are running as Trophy races Cadet, Junior Restricted, Junior, 100cc Yamaha Heavy, 125cc Rotax Max Heavy, Open. Other classes with lower entries than required will still run. There will be a tuning run, then 4 heats and a final. Following these races there will be grand prix races for Cadet, Junior Restricted, Junior, and Seniors. Remember as this is a trophy event there will be technical inspections and weighing of karts. Duty class for the day is all Junior drivers and there guardians, so please be there early to help with setup and tidy up at the end of the day.
KARTPORTS AND TRAILER PARKS
We currently have 3 kartports available for rent. These are very popular especially over the winter months so let me know if you would like to lease one. Cost is $105 from now through until September and you have the first right to renew the lease. If you are leasing one of the new kartports please use a ground sheet so that nothing spills onto the seal. This is very important. thanks.
CIK TROPHY OF NEW ZEALAND
As a club we have just received back from the Kartsport New Zealand executive our formal report on how we ran this event. We have been given a highly commended and just a few little things we could have improved. To follow on from this we have been awarded the hosting of the CIK trophy event again for next year. There were several clubs after this prestigious event but with the excellent job we did this year we got the vote. So mark the dates of 28 January, 29 January and 30 January 2011 in your calenders now. There are still a lot of improvements we have planned for the track prior to January and as before over the three days we need quite a few of you as helpers around the track in various roles. Remember that the CIK event does get television coverage and the income from an event of this size gives us good money that we can put back into the facilities.
CLUB TECH DAY
You should all have Saturday 12 June down in your calenders. This is our annual tech day at the track and will run from 10.00am through to about 2.00pm. As before we will split you into groups and we will have the following tutors, Stu Park covering engines and tuning, Gary Wilson covering chassis setup, Karl Wilson covering track and racing lines, Darren Conway covering data analysis, and CRC explaining there products and uses. Should be a full on day with the chance of some track work later on. See you all there.
UPPER HUTT CITY SPORTSPERSON OF THE YEAR AWARDS
We had two nominees entered for these awards this year. Karl Wilson for Sportsperson Of The Year and John Picard for Volunteer Of The Year. Our congratulations go out to John Picard who won the Volunteer Of The Year award. John puts a huge amount of his own time into maintaining the track and facilities and can often be found at the track on his own mowing lawns, digging drains, painting, and more. John really deserved this award and was at the function with his wife Christine last Sunday to accept and he had to make an acceptance speech WELL DONE John. When you see John at clubday this Sunday please give him a pat on the back.
50 YEAR CELEBRATIONS
Planning is well underway for the Kartsport Wellington 50 year celebrations to be held over the weekend of Friday 30 July, Saturday 31 July and Sunday 1 August. There is going to be a dinner function at the Upper Hutt Cosmopolition Club on the Friday night and then two days of racing at the Upper Hutt City Grand Prix event. There are also lots of fun things planned including vintage kart displays and racing. Entry forms for the 2 days racing will be available shortly. If you know any past members please get them to register with us so we can send them more info.
KARTSPORT WELLINGTON AGM
The annual general meeting of Kartsport Wellington will be held on Tuesday 29 June 2010 at the Angus Inn Lower Hutt staring at 7.30pm. To hold the AGM we need at least 50% of our members to attend, or we will have to hold the AGM at the July clubday after drivers briefing. This is your chance to have a say in how your club is run First notices on motion have been sent out and if you have something you want changed let us know. You as members also need to think about nominations for the two annual trophies awarded at the AGM. These are for Club Person of the Year and Senior Sportsperson of the Year.
FINALLY
Do you know of a past karter or even a present karter who would be interested in becoming a Kartsport Steward. We need at least 3 stewards to run a clubday and at the moment we are always calling on the same people. The training is easy and you get to be out on the track and making some important decisions when it matters.
Thank you to all the members who turned up to the working bee last Sunday. Your help makes our track and facilities one of the best in the country and this was also fed back to us in our CIK report.
Quite a few members have still not renewed there annual membership to the club. Please get on and do this you need to be a member to race at clubdays.
That's all from me this month and remember you can contact me anytime with any questions, advice, or complaints. If I cant help I will certainly put you onto the right person. We are here to help you enjoy the sport.
See you at the track
